Luke Ski Update – October 6th, 2010

So, this happened:

Thank you to everyone out there who sent all the congratulatory messages to myself and Sara. 🙂 It was a great day, and we are very happy. To show you a slice of the decorations from the reception, here's the "My Favorite Part" Wedding Centerpiece Art Quiz! Can you name all the films / TV shows depicted? http://lukeski.livejournal.com/642732.html

WHAT'S LUKE PLUGGING NOW?:

  • THE DR. DEMENTO SHOW: 40th ANNIVERSARY EPISODE!

Just posted over at http://www.drdemento.com is the epic 40th Anniversary Episode of the legendary comedy program "The Dr. Demento Show". In this special episode, which is just under 2 ½ hours long, Dr. Demento tells the in-depth history of the program, in more detail than I've ever heard him go before. He plays many rare clips from his first decade on the air, and dozens of songs that helped bring the show to fame and give it a national following. There's music by Tom Lehrer, Groucho Marx, Monty Python, Frank Zappa, and early rare & live recordings of "Weird Al" Yankovic, who got his first exposure to the world via the Dr. Demento Show. Also sprinkled throughout the show are anniversary greetings from many of the shows current contributors, and towards the end of the show he plays a few tracks by some of the more recent Dr. Demento Funny 25 hit-makers. The full playlist can be read here: http://dmdb.org/cgi-bin/plinfo.pl?drd10.1009.html It's an incredible episode, and I can't recommend it enough. You can hear it by going to http://drdemento.com/online.html , and purchasing it for $2 for the low-quality streaming version, or $4 for the high-quality streaming version. It's well worth every penny for the 148 minutes of glorious awesomeness.

If you haven't listened to "The Dr. Demento Show" in a while, even a long while, this 40th Anniversary Episode is a really good reason to tune in and remind yourself what you loved about the show. Who knows, maybe this will be the beginning of you making regular visits to drdemento.com to listen to the new episodes he posts every week, and/or listen to any of the over 550 shows he has there for streaming in the archives dating all the way back to the beginning of the show's history. (The previous week's episode is 2 hours of the best "Star Trek" comedy ever, you geeks like me should definitely check that out).

So there you have it. The Dr. Demento Show: 40th Anniversary Episode. Please give it a listen, and as the good Doctor says, don't forget to stay demented!
